ANA, CF airstrike kills insurgents in Baghlan province

BAGRAM AIRFIELD, Afghanistan (Courtesy of CJSOTF-A, Jan. 29, 2010) – Afghan National Army and Coalition forces were attacked by insurgents in Baghlan province, Jan. 27.  A Coalition aircraft responded killing more than 10 insurgents.

The Afghan-led force was on a patrol when insurgents attacked using small arms and indirect fire. A large group of insurgents massed in an open area and returned fire at the combined force and into the surrounding community.  One ANA soldier was wounded, stabilized and transported for further treatment to a local medical facility.

The Afghan commander requested air support to minimize the risk of civilian casualties in the area.  A Coalition aircraft dropped a precision-guided munition on the insurgents’ position.  No property damage was reported as a result of the airstrike.

No civilians were harmed during this enemy-initiated engagement.
