Afghan Commandos capture two insurgents, kill one in Herat Province

BAGRAM AIR FIELD, Afghanistan (Courtesy of CJSOTF-A Public Affairs, Nov. 6, 2008) – Afghan National Security Forces, assisted by Coalition forces, detained two insurgents and killed one in Zer-e-koh Valley, Shindand district, Herat province Nov. 4.

In an operation against enemies of Afghanistan, elements of the Afghan National Army Commando’s conducted a raid on Taliban commander Nangali Khan’s safe house.  During the operation, Commandos encountered an insurgent carrying an AK-47 assault rifle. He was instructed to lie on the ground but instead engaged the Commandos.  The Commandos returned fire on the insurgent, resulting in his death. 

There was no other resistance encountered for the remainder of the operation.  The Commandos ultimately detained two insurgents for further questioning. 

During the search of the compound, the Commandos recovered multiple Taliban related documents, an AK-47 assault rifle, ammunition, and multiple satchels of opium.  The opium was destroyed on site.

No ANSF, Coalition forces or civilian casualties were reported.
