FORT BRAGG, N.C. (USASOC News Service, Dec. 19, 2008) – Two Special Operations Forces medics were recognized as the 2008 USASOC Medics of the Year during the annual USASOC Surgeon’s Conference in Tampa, Fla., Dec. 14.

Sgt. 1st Class Eric Strand, a Special Forces medical sergeant from 3rd Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne), was chosen as the Special Forces Medic of the Year. Additionally, Strand was chosen as the overall USASOC Medic of the Year by the Special Operations Medical Association at their annual Mess Night Dec. 16.

Spc. Rotha R. Dornes, a Special Operations combat medic from 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, was also recognized during the conference. Dornes was also awarded a Bronze Star Medal for Valor for actions while deployed in support of the War on Terror.
