MEDIA ADVISORY: Fort Campbell-based Special Forces Soldiers to be decorated March 21 for heroism

FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. (USASOC News Service, March 09, 2007) — An award ceremony recognizing the heroic actions in Iraq of two Soldiers from 1st Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne) based at Fort Campbell, Ky., will be held at Cole Park Commons on March 21 at 3:30 p.m.
Two 1st Bn., 5th SFG Soldiers will receive the Soldier’s Medal for their actions on August 5, 2005 in Mosul, Iraq when they saved two fellow Soldiers from a burning vehicle.
The Soldier’s Medal is the Army’s highest award for heroic actions not involving direct conflict with an armed enemy and is awarded to those who have distinguished themselves by directly placing their lives at risk to save the lives of others.
The commanding general of the U.S. Army Special Forces Command (Airborne), Maj. Gen. Thomas R. Csrnko will preside over the ceremony and present the awards.

The two Special Forces Soldiers will be available for interviews following the ceremony for media who have properly coordinated.
Members of the media who wish to cover the ceremony must register with the SF Command PAO by 10 a.m., March 19. Please provide the number of news team members, video/still photographers, live trucks and other special equipment you plan to bring to the ceremony. Media planning live coverage during or after the program must provide that information to the SF Command PAO when responding to this invitation. Special needs or other interview requests should be submitted at this time as well.
Media should meet the PAO representative at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 21 at Gate 3. The media convoy will depart no later than 2:40 p.m.; The PAO representative will also escort live trucks in that convoy.
The following media ground rules have been established for this event. Media are encouraged to review the ground rules prior to the program. The PAO will discuss ground rules before the ceremony commences and enforce them during the ceremony.

- Soldier interview requests must be submitted to the SF Command PAO before March 19 at 10 a.m.
- All contact with family members will be coordinated through PAO representatives while on the installation.
- Installation media rules remain in effect during this event. Media members must remain with PAO facilitators while on post.
- Please advise the SF Command PAO if you need special assistance for interviews, etc. before 10 a.m. on March 19.
- Media should only enter 5th Special Forces Group buildings with a PAO facilitator.
